Dr. Ellen McNally

Dr. Ellen McNally is a chiropractor and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with 6 years experience in private practice. Using combinations of spinal & extremity adjusting, Active Release Technique® (ART), Graston Technique® and Kinesio Taping® to effectively treat many different biomechanical problems. Dr. McNally utilizes motion palpation, SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment) and FMS (Functional Movement Screen) to determine the root cause of a biomechanical problem and pain syndrome. Part of the Elite Provider Network (EPN) with Active Release Techniques (ART) as well as an Ironman Provider and a level 3 Medical Professional certified through the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI), Dr. McNally has gained a lot of experience early in her career to assist her patients efficiently and effectively.

Dr. McNally provides services to professional, collegiate and amateur athletes in the Providence office. The Acushnet Company (Titleist and FootJoy) contracts Dr. McNally directly to provide services onsite at their Worldwide Headquarters in Fairhaven, MA.

After completing her undergraduate bachelors degree in Biology she immediately went onto New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) to obtain her Doctor of Chiropractic degree. It was during this time that Dr. McNally became certified in ART, began treating at Ironman events and began training for triathlons herself.

During her last year of school Dr. McNally worked as a personal trainer at New York Sports Club. She adopted a functional movement perspective of training and rehabilitation. She also completed her first Half Ironman, Timberman 70.3, during that year.

In addition to providing services with the ART treatment teams at Ironman events, Dr. McNally also served as chiropractor to a four man team on the 2009 Race Across America (RAAM). Dr. McNally traveled with this team on the toughest bicycle race in the world, a non stop bicycle race from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD.

When I first came to see Dr McNally, I was in bad shape. After running the Boston Marathon for a second time, I had developed a chronic popping in my left knee. It was so bad, that I was worried I'd never be able to run long distances ever again. On top of that, I had developed chronic pain in my lower back that was keeping me awake for nights on end.

From the moment I walked through the door, Dr McNally's energy, optimism and can-do spirit started my healing process. In just my first session, she diagnosed that I had a spondylolisthesis in my lower spine, I had a weak psoas muscle in my core, and that I was over-training the wrong muscles and under-training the muscles I needed for running.

She gave me a few simple exercises to do daily and talked me through what exercises were over-developing my quadriceps and hip flexers which were causing my knee popping. It wasn't easy adapting my gym routine, but I stuck to it (supported by her positivity and energy). Within two to three weeks, my knee popping subsided, and a few weeks after that, my back pain was gone for good.

I still do the exercises she gave me every day. They are so simple that I sometimes think that they couldn't have possibly brought this change in my life, but I have the evidence to prove it. I've dropped 90 seconds from my mile pace for my long runs, I walk taller, feel better, sleep like a baby, and this April, I'll be taking on the Boston Marathon again. This time, with Dr McNally's help, I'll definitely feel like a winner!
